About New Rockford, ND

New Rockford was founded in 1883 at the time of the arrival of the Great Northern Railway into the area. In 1915, residents mounted a challenge to have the state capital relocated from Bismarck, North Dakota to New Rockford. This was not passed and defeated, leaving Bismarck the state capital of North Dakota.
