About Garrettsville, OH
Colonel John Garrett III purchased 300 acres (1 214 062 m²) of land in Nelson Township, Portage County, Ohio in 1803, the year Ohio became a state. The land was purchased for the price of $1,313, or about $4.40 per acre. In July of the following year, he settled on this land with his family and two slave girls, 6 and 10 years old. These settlers constructed a grist mill, which was to open in January 1806. In this month, however, Garrett died.Breeds
