Bay Standardbred Gelding

This is Lightning, a 12-year-old about 15hh Bay Standardbred gelding (according to the previous owner). I was informed that he was used as a camp horse, but he had been stalled and out of work for a while before I got him. He does ride but would benefit from an experienced rider due to some anxiety. I was also told he has been trained to drive, though I haven’t tested or seen that myself since I purchased him for riding. I’ve been focusing on improving his ground manners, and he’s been doing really well, although he can be a bit testy and sometimes shows a little attitude. I was hoping for a horse I could easily hop on and even put my kids on, but he’s not that kind of horse just yet. He truly tries, but after working with him for a while, I’ve realized he’s a bit more than what I anticipated.
