Mustang Mare for Sale in Apple Valley, CA

We have a beautiful, 7 year old bay mustang mare born on the Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon. Hope was an orphan foal. She arrived at our herd-based, holistic healing and natural horsemanship center in Apple Valley, CA at the age of 4 months. Since we took her in 7 years ago, our sanctuary has evolved into a hospice care and retirement community. Poor Hope is surrounded by geriatric horses who can no longer romp and run and give her the energetic environment she loves. In addition, the director of the sanctuary responsible for the daily care of the horses, is 75 years old. Hope is young and will most likely outlive the director. So we felt it was only fair to Hope to find her a new home now, when she is ripe for learning. Hope is very sociable and curious and loves being a herd member. She is good with mares and geldings alike. She also loves humans, is cooperative and enjoys personal attention. She has been healthy and sound, no known illnesses or allergies. She loves the water and willingly accepts hose downs. She is bright and attentive, learns quickly, about 15 HH, 900 lbs. She eats well, easy keeper, been on alfalfa and a little teff grass, 3 meals a day all her life. We deliver regular dewormer and herbs or supplements mixed in rice bran mush. She has never refused it. She is used to a large pen with shelter for nighttime containment, adjacent to other horses. She goes out with a mixed herd on 5 acres for 8 hours a day. She would not be happy in a small confinement or without the company of at least one other horse. She is used to desert terrain and wind, and tolerates it well. She halters, leads, wears a fly mask and trailers, responds to her name, will come when called. Accepts a blanket if necessary, although she rarely has had one on. She likes being brushed. She grows a great winter coat too. We believe Hope can be anything from a companion horse to a riding partner. Whatever she loves doing! As gentle as she is, she has a mustang spirit. So we are looking for a home that has experience working with mustangs if possible. At minimum an experienced horse person who will build a gentle, trusting partnership with her is recommended. If you are interested or have additional questions, please contact Jan Meyer at spiritofequus@outlook.com. Tell us about housing options you can provide for Hope, your experience with horses and what type of job you have in mind for her. If we find the right home for her we will bring her vaccinations and deworming up to date prior to adoption. Adoption contract. Fee will be based on expenses to get her ready for her new home: pre-purchase exam if requested, vaccines, dewormers, transport. She has a fly mask, halter and winter blanket that will travel with her. Thank you for your consideration.

About Apple Valley, CA

For centuries, Apple Valley was populated by Shoshonean, Paiute, Vanyume, Chemehueve and the Serrano who were attracted to the water and vegetation around the Mojave River. The Mojave people came later and were the tribal group encountered in 1542 by a detachment of Coronado's men. These were the first Spanish to come to the Mojave desert. Pedro Fages came through the area in 1772, looking for deserters. Father Francisco Garcés spent time in the area in 1776.
