Quarter Horse Mare for Sale in Willis, TX

10yo mare, 14.1 hands. Well broke, largely used for pasture/trail riding previously. Originally started for breakaway calf roping (tracking/roping calves around the arena). She does not have an open-caliber stop, and current owner is only interested in open caliber breakaway horses. Lightly started on the barrel pattern. She is sometimes a gritty (chargy) mare, and she is quick. As such, not recommended for a complete beginner. She does not rear, kick, buck, bolt, bite, or crib. Exceptionally sweet on the ground and wants to follow you around in the pasture and barn to be pet. No soundness issues ever. Same owner since being foaled. Located in the north Houston area. $4000 OBO

About Willis, TX

Before the founding of Willis, most residents in the area lived in a settlement known as Danville, formed four miles west of present-day New Waverly in the 1830s. A few Danville residents in the 1850s settled south of Danville in what is now Willis. Several of these early Danville residents were large slave plantation owners. About 600 of the estimated 1,000 early Danville residents in the 1850s were slaves. After the Civil War, many recently freed slaves lived in the Willis area, establishing Thomas Chapel United Methodist Church in 1867, the oldest church in Willis.
