Athletic Appendix QH Mare

Dixie Chic is an Appendix Quarter Horse that loves to have a job. She has done a bit of everything, from competing at a 4-H level in English and games, to the trails of North and South Dakota’s Medora and Black Hills, to cattle sorting, and she loves to go. Since she does have the appendix Thoroughbred in her she loves to have her job and will not complain when she sees you coming with halter in hand. She is a willing partner who would do best with an intermediate or advanced rider as she has “more go than whoa”. So if you are looking for a beginner horse that's a bit slow and dead, Dixie-Chic is not your girl. However, if you are looking for a horse to spice up your arena rides, that will push you more than that lesson horse you’ve been riding and you want a step-up, then Dixie just might be your girl. She has an athletic, classic build and incredibly strong hooves that have never needed shoes. She loves attention, being brushed and fussed with. I personally think her perfect person is someone who has been riding for a while and has a lot of self-confidence and is now looking for a horse to really push them forward, but still want a safe horse, as Dixie does not buck, rear, bite, or kick. She is a champ at standing still in the cross ties and will be quiet at the trailer, picket line, and inside the trailer. She can even get to where she will self-load into the trailer when done regularly. So while her gusto and willingness to work is likely too much for a beginner rider, for someone who has been around the block, this horse is perfect for you! She can get allergies which we easily manage with a daily herb (spirulina) and a steroid shot on an as-needed basis (last year she just needed one in spring and late fall). Dixie-Chic is only being sold due to the fact that we bought her for our 11-year-old daughter who had very little experience with horses. When she finally decided she really just wants to trail ride, it became clear that she is just too timid for Dixie’s energy on the trail. We love this horse very much and this has been a very difficult decision, three years in the making. We wish to be completely honest with anyone interested, and want to find Dixie-Chic the perfect home.
