Name: UC Earl of Battersea Breed: Morgan Registration: AHMA Age: 2024 Gender: Gelding Color: Bay Height: 14.2; expected ~15hh Notes: UC Earl of Battersea, “Earl”, is a 2024, 14.1hh (expected to mature around 14.3hh) registered Morgan gelding by Battersea Xanadu (Chief of State X Battersea Ouida) and out of UC Lady Patriot (Call to Order X UC Courage Under Fire). His sire, Battersea Xanadu was successfully shown in hand before his excellent temperament, trainability, and impressive pedigree led him to become one of UConn’s current stallions. Earl’s paternal grandsire, Chief of State, was a three-time winner of the Mid A Morgan Sport Horse Award, collecting championship titles in carriage and combined driving, dressage, and hunter over fences. Earl’s dam, UC Lady Patriot, successfully completed her training and was transitioning into the UConn riding program before an unfortunate injury led her to become a broodmare. Her fluid gaits, well-built frame, and responsive temperament make her a staple in UConn’s breeding program. Her foals, although still young, have shown great potential including her 2022 colt, UC Contraband, who is on track to becoming UConn’s next herd stallion. Earl lunges quietly with tack and has been introduced to in-hand dressage. He has shown aptitude for jumping during his first time through a jump chute. He loads, ties, bathes, and has been exposed to clippers. When faced with new obstacles, Earl is brave and curious. His strong groundwork foundation, easy going demeanor, rhythmic gaits, and courage make him an excellent versatile prospect that could truly go in any direction for an amateur or youth working with a trainer. Earl’s training will continue until he is sold. He is current with all vaccines, deworming, and Coggins.
