Buckskin Quarter Horse Mare

If you’re looking for a truly safe, level-headed horse, meet Hazel, a beautiful three-year-old buckskin mare. Hazel has a natural talent for being a very competent horse that handles trails in a way unlike hardly any other horse I’ve ridden or trained; she eases through brush, creeks, banks, and water almost more like a mule than a horse and does an amazing job at working up and down banks slow and easy without getting in a hurry. She is naturally very well-minded, and even from the time we started her as a colt, she naturally excelled at riding out and about and never truly spooking at anything on the trail that I can remember. Also, she does great at nighttime riding out and about. She rides a straight, calm course in the direction you point her, even in more distracting situations or on sketchy routes. She focuses on the job ahead of her instead of getting distracted by other things or horses around her. Hazel is a very gentle babysitter type who does great with beginners and is great for kids’ rides. She doesn’t mind ya climbing all over her, stand up, jump off, crawl on from the backside, squeeze her in the flanks with your heels, pull on her tail, run at her, crawl between her legs- you name it; this girl is ready to be the gentle partner you and the kids were looking for. She is happy to see you come to the pasture to catch her and comes up to meet you, sometimes at a trot. She leads well at the walk or trot and stops when you stop; don’t worry about getting run over by this one. She does especially great at being led through rough terrain, slow and calm, without trying to rush into you; if you’re looking for one to really keep you safe on the trail, this is it. She has been ridden single, double, and triple, and even rides relaxed with a flank rope on. She is good with gunshots (there aren’t too many that ya just stand up on and shoot off of), tarps, balls, cows, dogs, sheep, and more. She loads well and can also back out of the trailer, stands tied well, and is good with her feet being handled. She has been around dirt bikes, vehicles, and other farm equipment. She also knows how to responsibly move into a lope and has a nice trot; she is soft to the bit, with a good stop and back. And for a cherry on top, she leads by her lower jaw (ya don’t even need a halter or rope to lead this little miss). This mare is generally near the top of the pecking order in the herd but isn’t one to cause a commotion, and she seems to be a stabilizing mind of reason in almost any herd dynamic. Standing at 14 hands tall with a solid build, this girl is built to handle a large range of riders and is a great size for your new pleasure trail horse, that gentle mare you’ve been looking for for the grandkids to climb onto, or just a safe ranch horse to ride the pastures and check and move cows with.
