Quarter Horse Gelding for Sale in Powell, WY
13 year old grade gelding • 14.3hh • The ultimate all-around partner
If you’re looking for one horse that can truly do it all, here he is. This gelding has been there, done that, and is ready to keep packing around his next rider. Solid-built with good feet, a kind mind, and enough experience to fit into just about any program.
He has experience in:
• Youth rodeo events
• English jumping
• Trail competitions
• 4-H show classes
• Ranch work- including pasture roping, gathering, branding, sorting
• Trail riding and Packing
He’s the kind you can take from the arena to the ranch and back again without missing a beat. Honest, versatile, and dependable with plenty of miles under him. Whether you want a fun family horse, a youth step-up horse, or a dependable using gelding, he checks a lot of boxes.
Easy keeper, solid feet, and seasoned in many different environments. He loads and unloads easily, and will back out of a trailer like a perfect gentleman.
He has been in many parades and is accustomed to large venues. He recently outrode for the 250th Anniversary Stampede Parade in Cody, WY, on the 4th of July for the Honored Guest Wagon. He handles the hustle and bustle of crowds and endless “Can I pet your horse?” like a pro.
He has been to the Cody Nite Rodeo countless times in the summer for Barrel racing and Heeling. If you’ve never been, it is a great time with very lively entertainment that usually includes fireworks, loud noises, crowds, explosions, and smoke. He stands quietly.
Jinx is a forward mover and does not require you to pedal him down the trail. He will stand quietly for you to ride him, then step out like he owns the place. He is the same horse if you ride him all the time or leave him to sit for the winter. He is the king of the show ring in a halter class or showmanship class. He has such confidence and presence in the ring. He has won many Grand Champion gelding classes with our kids in 4-H. He is great to groom for a show and enjoys a good bath. His feet are solid and black, and he is excellent for our farrier; we have had hot and cold shoes on him, and he does great with either.
He has been hauled from Wyoming to Texas and is an easy keeper on the road. He happily eats and drinks wherever we are and is never a horse we worry about traveling with.
Jinx truly shines as a ranch horse and a youth rodeo horse. He would excel in those environments. Our daughter has participated in Little Britches Rodeo, 4-H (every class, including jumping), and various local youth rodeos with him. He has done barrels, poles, breakaway, goat tying, heading, and heeling with our family. While I wouldn’t classify him as a 1D barrel horse or a pro breakaway horse, if you are looking for a safe horse for your handy kid to Jr. High rodeo on that can and has done all the events, Jinx is your guy. He is consistent with each event. He excels in Poles and Breakaway but will also turn a barrel if asked. He loves working cattle and having a purpose. He has all the buttons.
On trail, Jinx will ride out alone or in a group, front or back. He is great in steep terrain and will keep his feet under him. He has taken care of our family on many, many elk hunts in the backcountry. He will pack meat or gear, leads great while packing. He highlines and hobbles without any issue. You can hobble him and turn him out to graze in the mountains, and he won’t stray from camp.
At home, Jinx is exposed to tractors, 4-wheelers, equipment, trucks, dogs, kids, goats, cattle, loud noises, tarps, ropes, and various other horses, and nothing bothers him. We regularly track the roping sled on him with the 4-wheeler. He is quiet when mounting and dismounting.
OPEN BIDDING ON THEHORSEBAY.COM ENDS ON 09/01 @ 6:00 PM CT. More information is available on the website, including an UTD vet inspection, Coggins, video, images, and the owner's contact information to ask questions, request information, or make arrangements to come to visit.
