Gypsy Vanner Gelding for Sale in Jacksboro, TX
Rocky Boy West, or “Westy” as he’s known ‘round here, is a coming 7-year-old 14.3h Gypsy/QH X gelding. Not only is he easy on the eyes, with his unique dunskin coloring, wide, distinctive dorsal stripe, and all the mane and tail you could hope for, but he has the kindest, loving nature to match. He comes with just enough feather to look elegant, while remaining low maintenance and a soft, sweet eye. We are only Westy’s second home, and he has been a part of our herd for nearly a year –
We have truly loved our time with this good, honest gelding.
Westy was bred and raised in the hills of Montana. He knows the wind and the wild – he has been down the trails, crossed the water, and pushed the cattle. He spent a season learning a hard day’s work ranching in California, he’s been roped off of and is a handy horse with a willing spirit.
Westy is broke to ride English and Western and has three comfortable gaits. He stands still to be mounted from the block or the ground. He can be ridden bareback in a halter, has a nice turnaround, and a great stop on him. He is soft in the bridle and responsive to leg cues – a really enjoyable ride. He has been lightly started over fences and took to it like a natural!
On the trails, Westy is steady of mind and surefooted. Nothing seems to faze him, point him any direction, and he’ll head that way with ease. He appreciates nature and seems to feel most at home in the great wide open. He is a horse with a great heart – a solid, trustworthy partner.
Westy is always a favorite of the farrier. He stands quietly to be groomed, bathed, and braided. He is an easy keeper, currently on a forage-only diet and is near the bottom of the pecking order – he is always the horse in the pasture that encourages the herd to run and frolic, and he is always kind to others. He is gentle on the ground, and he loads and unloads from the trailer like a seasoned traveler.
Westy was sired by His Majesty the King’s Heir (GV00651F1) and is eligible for registration. He sells sound, clean, and UTD. PPE on file. Located in Jacksboro, TX. Tiny Pony Co. rider is 5’6 for reference. Text or call Courtney Maddux anytime with your questions or to schedule a visit!
We love this horse, and we know you would too.

About Jacksboro, TX
Jacksboro was first settled in the 1850s, with newcomers attracted by land offers from the Texas Emigration and Land Office. Originally called "Mesquiteville", the community grew up along the banks of Lost Creek and spread out over the pastureland between Lost Creek and the waters of the West Fork of Keechi Creek. It was renamed "Jacksboro" in 1858 when it became the county seat, in honor of brothers William and Patrick Jack, veterans of the Texas Revolution. Regular postal service began in 1859. The county was one of the few in Texas to vote against secession before the Civil War.
