Oakley is a 7-year-old pony gelding standing a sturdy 13.3 hands high. With Oakley, you get the stout, sturdy, large pony size, with the brains and training of a Quarter Horse; making him perfect for the little ones to learn on, the older kids to grow with and not grow out of, and the sturdiness for adults to be able to hop on and enjoy. The main rider in the video is 5″9, so if you’re a smaller adult, don’t write him off for being a pony! There is not a more versatile little horse on the planet. He can go from working in the feedlot to jumping around the cross-country course as quickly as you can change his tack. It’s hard to put into words just how great this guy has been to have around. He is as useful as he is fun.
He is the perfect little do-it-all guy that everyone enjoys riding and being around. He has been used on the ranch, in lessons, on the trails, and is just a great all-around family and ranch pony. He is happy to lead the little ones or jump all the fences on the cross-country course with the adults or older kids, too! Talk about a brave and downright fun little horse! He has had a job in the feedlot and does all the jobs like a big horse would. Push cattle, open and shut gates, and will really watch a cow. He is always relaxed and takes his rider cues when out sorting the cattle. If you ask, he’ll do it. He’s the kind of guy who you can enjoy any discipline with and be safe doing it. He’s just as happy being painted and dressed up like a unicorn as he is jumping on the cross country course or out riding with the cattle. If you could dream up the ultimate fun show, 4-H/pony club mount, it would be Oakley.
You can pull him from the field after a month or two and ride him out like he’s been going every day. He is safe, smart, and useful. The whole family can enjoy him, kids and adults alike, and he can be trusted to ride just about anywhere a pony can fit! The riders in the video are 5″9-6′, so you can see he is perfectly suitable for both kids and adults!
In the ring, Oakley is straightforward and easy. He has three smooth and comfortable gaits, great brakes, and picks up both leads easily. He will ride English or western and loves to jump! He has a great neck rein, turnaround, and stop. He rides off on a loose rein and is just so fun and easy to be on. Under English tack, he will frame up and put together a dressage test with ease. On the cross-country course, he is a blast! He is brave, honest, and enjoys being out there. He will always jump and is happy to help his rider out of a bad spot. Seriously, this pony will jump the moon!
On the trails, Oakley is a solid citizen. The kids take him out bareback in a halter and ride all over the farm. He will swim, cross streams, ride into town, and be safe in traffic. He’ll ride double with the kids or be ponied off a big horse. He doesn’t blink an eye at a thing and is as close to bombproof as they come. He opens and closes gates, pushes cattle like a big horse, and is a great partner to go sorting on. Out on the ranch, he gathered and sorted pairs, did spring and fall work, and was used to loading cattle.
In the barn, Oakley is a barn favorite! He is very used to kids, dogs, and other animals running all about. He’s a good boy for all the usual barn tasks and is a total pleasure to have around. Oakley lives outside in a mixed herd of mares and geldings and is always the first to the fence to greet his people. He’s an easy keeper that has no maintenance or vices.
