Tennessee Walking Mare for Sale in Olive Hill, KY
Crystal is truly one of a kind, call her a unicorn in the looks department! Standing a perfect 14.1hh and at 4 years old (coming 5 this June), this beautiful double registered Smokey Valley Horse/TWHBEA Maximum Sabino Mare is the total package.
Crystal is a Smokey Valley Horse, which is a modern recreation of America’s historic smooth gaited traveling horse, bred for effortless, ground-covering comfort over long distances. Her natural four-beat gaits (including a running walk and rack) deliver that famous “magic carpet ride” that you get even at varying speeds, with no jarring trot or pace to interrupt your ride. This means miles of trail riding without the fatigue that comes from posting or enduring rougher movements that you would get from other breeds.
Crystal’s natural gaits let you sit deep and relaxed in the saddle while she glides along efficiently due to her significant overstride that is purpose-bred into Smokey Valley Horses.
Beyond her nice ride quality, Crystal is as sweet as they come, a true “in your pocket” personality that’s gentle, willing, and people-oriented. She’s broke, sound, and sane, with rock-solid trail and ground manners.
She checks a lot of the boxes that most riders are looking for:
✔️ Stands for mounting and dismounting
✔️ Stands quietly for the farrier or vet
✔️ Stands for bathing
✔️ Quiet while tacking up and grooming
✔️ Dog friendly
✔️ Traffic safe
✔️ Can ride out solo
✔️ Rides through water, over bridges, and logs
✔️ Will pony other horses
✔️ Loads and unloads trailers
✔️ Stays tied without fussing
✔️ Impeccable Ground Manners
✔️ No Buck, Rear, or Bite
Despite being 14.1hh, her stocky, muscular build means she can comfortably carry most adult riders (or make a perfect dream horse for a lucky little girl!).
Crystal recently returned from three months in the rugged desert trails of Arizona, where she added valuable experience to her already impressive resume. She handled the challenging terrain like a pro, often serving as the mount of choice for Dr. Bob Coleman, owner of Smokey Valley Farms. The trails out in Arizona that would test most horses were simply a walk in the park for her, proving her sure-footedness, stamina, and willingness every step of the way.
Anywhere you take Crystal, she grabs the attention and steals the spotlight with her long, flowing mane and tail! If you want flashy, she’s the definition!
Crystal is forward and responsive, moving willingly off light cues and stopping on a dime when asked. That said, she is straightforward and honest to ride and does not require an advanced rider, but an intermediate rider with good hands and a solid, independent seat, ideally someone with experience riding gaited horses who is confident and can keep her balanced in her natural gait.
She would be an absolute dream for a kid or little girl looking for that perfect step-up trail horse. With her flashy looks and forward drive, she offers more “go” than your typical trail horses, but because of her kind nature, you’ll still feel in control and confident in the saddle. She has solid experience in the show ring from our local gaited horse shows and youth classes, so she’s ready to hit the trails or the arena with her new rider. Kids won’t have to worry about outgrowing her anytime soon; she’s the kind of horse a young rider can grow with for years!
Crystal would make a gorgeous addition to any farm or family, bringing joy and pure pleasure to every ride!

About Olive Hill, KY
Olive Hill began as a rural trading post established by the Henderson brothers in the first part of the 19th century. Although Olive Hill was allegedly named by Elias P. Davis for his friend Thomas Oliver, there is no evidence to support this popular contention. In 1881, the town was moved from a hillside location to the current location in the Tygarts Creek valley, where the Elizabethtown, Lexington and Big Sandy Railroad had laid tracks. The hillside location become known as Old Olive Hill and now serves as the city's residential area.
