Missouri Fox Trotter Gelding for Sale in Frenchtown, MT

OPEN BIDDING ON THEHORSEBAY.COM ENDS ON 6/11 @ 3:40 PM CT. More information is available on the website, including an UTD vet inspection, Coggins, video, images, and the owner's contact information to ask questions, request information, or make arrangements to come to visit. Cody is a great trail horse. He is a beautifully built 2018 Missouri Foxtrotter gelding who will go all day. Cody has been ridden all over the mountains of Montana and Idaho. He can gait smoothly along the trail or effortlessly switch gears to match slower, non-gaited horses. He walks first or last in large groups or willingly leaves the group altogether if you ask him to ride out on his own. Cody is very fun to ride. Cody is truly a mountain horse. He is most at home climbing hillsides and negotiating tricky trails. He has a big motor with a lot of heart that doesn’t quit. Cody has a very comfortable trail walk and glides out very smoothly, coordinated and sure-footed on even the rockiest terrain. Cody is an expert at standing patiently tied, highlining like a champ, and wearing hobbles like he was made for it. He stands nicely at the hitchrail or patiently highlined all night long. Cody will lead out gaiting or at a trail walk, leading a string and can easily be packed. Cody crosses bridges, goes through water, over logs, or wherever you point him. Cody is unfazed by dogs running under his feet, traffic, four-wheelers, side-by-sides, tractors, or trucks. He does not buck, bite, or kick at dogs, livestock, or other horses and mules along the trail. Cody accepts a bit nicely, yields to gentle pressure on all four quarters, and is learning to side pass and open gates. He offers his feet easily and stands for the farrier. Cody loads well into trailers and stands for tacking up, bathing, clipping, and grooming. Cody is not the ‘in-your-pocket’ type—he is a business horse; he prefers to know his job and do it well. He will follow another horse anywhere, or he can lead out on his own just fine. Cody has carried young people and beginners, although he is better suited as a more advanced rider because he does best if he can follow clear expectations from his rider. Cody is an easy keeper, holding his weight well even through cold Montana winters or after several weeks camping in the mountains. He is always the first to accept an invitation from our Colts to play. He fits in well with other horses and isn’t a bully but will hold his own. Cody also loves to go swimming! Cody has proven himself to be a reliable trail mount and an excellent hunting and packing companion. Please call us if you’d like to learn more about Cody. We require the buyer to place a $2000 deposit via PayPal or wire transfer immediately upon the auction’s close and wire the remaining balance before the close of the following business day.

About Frenchtown, MT

Americans gave the location a generic name based on the ethnicity or language of the original settlers, namely French Canadians. The settlement was cofounded around 1858 by two French Canadians moving inland with their Metis families to escape turmoil further west that followed the arrival of the American federal authorities. Jean-Baptiste Ducharme left Puget Sound during the Indian Wars (1855-1856) abandoning his land claim as his Muck Creek neighbors were arrested under martial law. Louis Brown (anglicized name) left the Colville Valley turmoil a few years later with his Pend d'Oreille wife and Metis daughters. Meanwhile the Pend d'Oreilles Kalispel had moved upriver to a new locale accompanied by Jesuit priest Father Hoecken who relocated the Saint-Ignatius mission northeast of the future Frenchtown.
