Quarter Horse Gelding for Sale in Tomahawk, WI

A former rescue, Ozzie is a coming 8 year old (May 10th) 14H, very pale wild-bay based, buttermilk buckskin gelding, who was discovered as a yearling living in an extremely small enclosure with several other horses; knee deep in manure with fecal matter in the water tank, no food other than a small handful left from a moldy round bale and the remains of a dead horse outside of the enclosure. Near death himself, he had to be dragged through the mire and then lifted into the trailer. Oz and one other were immediately removed from the property, with most of the remaining horses being removed two weeks later. Though he is supposedly out of a foundation bred buckskin mare; there is no proof that she was in fact, foundation bred. His sire was supposedly a palomino, but again; there's no proof. As a result of the neglect he suffered, his growth has been stunted. Though he string tests at 15H he will never reach that height, and hes parrot mouthed (has an overbite). According to our vet however, his back teeth are in alignment so he does well on pasture, hay, and grain. He has always been ridden in a bitless bridle and hes never needed anything more.

About Tomahawk, WI

Before 1837, the land where Tomahawk is now situated belonged to the Ojibwe, who traded actively with fur traders such as the American Fur Company and the Northwest Company. After the 1837 cession, the practical situation changed only slightly: the federal survey teams had not arrived yet, logging activity was still light, and Ojibwe continued to actively occupy the general area. There was a village just north of the modern Tomahawk, in the vicinity of modern Bradley, and a village on Skanawan Creek. The 1854 Treaty of La Pointe created the reservations at Lac du Flambeau, Lac Courte Oreilles and Bad River. Even after this treaty, the region was largely public domain land and the treaties allowed the Ojibwe usufructory rights to hunt, fish, gather wild rice and make maple sugar.
