About Rushville, NY

Elias Gilbert was the first settler in Rushville. Rushville was originally called Federal Hollow. The town was called this because many of Rushville's first settlers were from Massachusetts and favored the Federalist political party. The Village changed the name after the turn of the century when the Jeffersonian party grew more popular, and Rushville was renamed after Dr. Benjamin Rush of Revolutionary fame.
