Quarter Horse Mare for Sale in Brookneal, VA

Penny and Summer are both fantastic mares! Penny is 15 years old Quarter Horse, around 14.3 hands, She has a beautiful red/brown coat and black mane and tail. She is intelligent and loves to get treats, anything peppermint is her favorite! She is very alert and aware of her surroundings, I mostly go on trail rides with her. Penny has not been ridden in over a year, so she needs to be refreshed in her training. She is a horse that would do well with having a lot of work to do, she has lots of energy! But she also would love to nap in the sunshine while being groomed! Summer is 18 years old Standardbred, around 14.1 hands, She has a lovely brown coat, black in the winter, and a black mane and tail with red highlights. She is a sweet old girl, who absolutely loves to go on trail rides. She is relaxed and takes it all in stride, especially when she is out on the trail. However, she has old injuries that prevent her from being ridden often. With proper management, stretching, liniment gel, Bute, and a relaxed pace (mostly walking), she could probably be ridden 1-3 times a week. She needs a rider who will pay attention to when she is getting tired. Both Penny and Summer are great for vets and farriers, they both are barefoot. Penny is also an easy keeper, I do not feed her any grain unless it is snowing out, and she puts on weight. Summer also maintains a steady weight with no grain, but during the winter she might need a little more food. They both live in the pasture full time, but they could do a partial stall schedule. I am giving them away because I am moving away from having horses, and I just want them to go to a good home. Their saddles, saddle pads, bridles, halters, lunge rope, grooming kits, winter blankets, feed buckets, etc. can be given with the horses. Please contact me with any questions and I will be happy to provide more information.

About Brookneal, VA

On January 14, 1802, "Brooke Neal" was established by the Commonwealth of Virginia in Chapter 65 of the Acts of Assembly. It was named after John Brooke and his wife, Sarah (née Neal) Brooke, who established a tobacco warehouse which became known as "Brooke's Warehouse". It was located near the boat landing and ferry crossing on the Staunton River. The "Town of Brookneal" was incorporated and a charter issued in 1908. Later to become the smallest incorporated town in the Central Virginia region, Brookneal served as the closest center of commerce for portions of Campbell, Charlotte, and Halifax counties.
