Rocky Mountain Gelding for Sale in Perryville, KY

DJ is a registered, 3 year old, silver black, Rocky Mountain gelding with impeccable conformation and an incredible disposition to go with his looks! Out of Steely and a Pence’s Blue Boy mare. He handles like a quarter horse, but has an amazing and flashy gait! To say letting this one go is TOUGH is an understatement. He is a horse to keep for a lifetime. We bought him last fall as a 2-year-old. At the time I was pregnant, so I had to wait to start him until this Spring. I started working with him in mid-March. He’s had a ton of groundwork, so he was no problem to break. Very much a pleaser- so much so that he constantly looks for the next cue as you’re riding him. He will drive with heel pressure, plow, or neck rein. Obviously, he still needs to be fooled with to keep all of this going since he’s young, but he’s so intelligent and will take you anywhere you want to go- quite literally. He was trained on a US Highway, so he doesn’t bat an eye at a car, semi, motorcycle, or 4-wheeler. He will walk and whoa by voice command and walks on a totally loose rein. You can collect him up, and he knows to gait. He has a super lite mouth but won’t rear if you get in his mouth too much. He has a beautiful 4-beat gait with some pretty nice lift- especially for a horse with no toe and very light shoes on! He’ll go through water, get on a trailer, cross bridges, clip, cross tie, wash, and he’s been shod 4 times with no issues… no spook in this fella! He’s the first one to run up to you and will follow you around like a big dog. DJ will be the same horse every time you get on him. He isn’t horse or barn sour- he simply does as he’s asked. We’ve done several trail rides and he has been the same good-natured boy every single time. Doesn’t spook at mailboxes, Park signs, vehicles, barking dogs, side-by-sides, or horses running up on you.

About Perryville, KY

The site was first settled by James Harbeson and a band of Virginians in the final stages of the American Revolution c.  1781. Harbeson's Fort or Station was located near a cave and spring to provide additional protection from Indian raids. The settlement's position beside the river and along roads leading to Harrod's Fort, Louisville, Lebanon, and Danville caused it to be renamed Harbeson's Crossing. In 1815, Edward Bullock and William Hall laid out a new town at the site named for Cmdr.
