About Wister, OK
A post office named Wister was established June 30, 1890, at the present location of the town of Wister, Oklahoma. Until that time the settlement had been known as Wister Junction, due to its location at the crossing of two railroad routes. Federal post office regulations, however, forbade new post offices, such as Wister's, from carrying descriptive names such as "Junction," "Mountain," or "Corner."
