Quarter Horse Mare for Sale in Chesterfield, VA

https://www.diamondridgestablesva.com/salehorses Serena’s owners have had this girl her whole life (they even have her sire and grand sire) and she has had a very correct and slow upbringing. She was started Western and rode that way most of her career, which would make her an excellent all around horse. However, her owners are barrel racers and Serena’s heart just isn’t in that discipline. They have given her time to try and make her love it and never pushed her, but she just doesn’t want to run fast. There’s no surprise there as this girl is very steady. That being said, Serena will be not be considered to go to a barrel racing home, if she wanted to run them she wouldn’t be getting sold! Serena has been taken on trails through water and over bridges. She is very well started in the English disciplines as well and absolutely LOVES to jump. She would be an amazing all around horse, western pleasure, hunter/jumper or even a school horse as anyone can ride this lovely mare. Serena has shown locally in the hunters and has taken home ribbons! Serena stands great for the farrier, shots, and baths. She loads right up into the trailer. She doesn’t have very “mare” tendencies. She will stand all day to be groomed, sometimes even ground tied. On occasion she will pin her ears in her stall, but never acts on it, you can go right up to her and her ears will go forward again. I was told by her owners that she doesn’t love the cross-ties and to not leave her alone in them because she had a scare when she was a 2yo. Our barn has open side cross-ties in the aisle and I use them every time to tack-up and groom her. She hasn’t questioned them once and I have walked away from her to see what she would do and she never moves. I would still be cautious with them in new surroundings, but when she trusts where she is she won’t have an issue with them. Serena does have an old, superficial scar on her right hind coffin that is totally cold, non-reactive and has zero limitations, it was an accident that occurred in a field. Serena is currently going WTC and jumping 2’. Her owners gave her the winter off before deciding to sell her, so she has been back in work for a few months. She is already very fit, but needs to build up those jumping muscles and stamina before she starts jumping higher. She was jumping up to 3’ and I believe she will easily be able to again in a few more months. She does have lead changes! Right now they are a little rusty, but they are getting better and better each week. With a few more weeks they should next to automatic. Serena is recommended for an intermediate and up rider. Her rider should be confident enough to let Serena take the reins, she is a great teacher and knows what to do. She is very much a point and shoot type of ride and just needs to be balanced on occasion. If you say woah and sit back, she will halt. Her breaks are impeccable and this girl always wants to please. She can pin her ears under saddle, but that’s when you know you are interfering too much. She is going to make someone an amazing show partner. You can drop the reins in any gate and she will stay at her consistent speed. If you are in her face too much, she will just kindly shake her head to let you know to let go. If you squeeze on her or have a very loose leg, she will just pin her ears until you take your leg off. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and is not a spiteful mare at all! We have not seen her spook at all, but she does like to take a peak at things. If she thins something is interesting or scary she will look at it and cock her head, but as long as you keep an inside rein on her she forgets about it and puts her attention on the rider. Serena can be ridden everyday or twice a week with no change to her. She is a steady girl that requires no maintenance or prep. She also is a very easy keeper and lives off air. She is currently on a grass pasture with a few flakes of hay a day and a handful of pellets am/pm.
