About Heritage Breeds Southwest

The goal of Heritage Breeds Southwest is to protect domestic animal genetic diversity with an emphasis on breeds suited to arid lands.

  • To preserve genetic diversity of animal agricultural systems.
  • Educating children and adults with hands-on experience about farm animals.
  • To establish a conservation oriented model animal farm, emphasizing breeds suited to arid regions.
  • Multi-species exhibits with barnyard settings.

At this time we are raising:

  1. Wilbur-Cruce Spanish Barbs
  2. Black Australop Chickens
  3. Bronze Turkeys

Future and present projects include:

  1. The Barnyard Project
  2. The Rare Breeds Riding Center
  3. The Travelling Barnyard
