Help construct 4 miles of new trails through the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. At nearly 20,000 acres, Midewin is the largest piece of protected open space in northeastern Illinois, just 40 miles southwest of Chicago. When it's finished later this summer, our new mixed-use trail will give visitors a remarkable view of wildflowers, tall grasses, and wildlife. Free refreshments and special thank-you gifts will be given to all volunteers on June 4. This is a wonderful opportunity for equestrians and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to have a lot of fun while working up a little sweat spreading and leveling gravel ('dozers and dump trucks are doing the preliminary heavy work for us). For more information, call Julie at 815-423-2148.
