Santanta (SET-T'AINTE, White Bear), a Kiowa chief, known for his eloquent speaking abilities, was a signer of the Medicine Lodge Treaty. This Treaty, signed in 1867, ended the U.S. war against the plains Indians and ordered the Kiowas to reservation life in Oklahoma.
