Horse Woman in Iraq
By Don Blazer
She's in an Iraq combat zone, but on her off duty time she sits in front of the computer studying horsemanship.
Senior Airman Kylee Reynolds, 22, plans a career in horses so when she's not a weather forecaster for the U.S. Air Force, she's taking an online horse course.
She is an online Breyer State University student. Curriculum for the Equine Studies program is provided by Success Is Easy, the world-wide leader in online horse courses offered by colleges and universities. She is currently studying Conformation and Selection of Performance. She plans to take all of the courses required to complete the Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies degree.
"What I like most about these courses (besides the fact that I am learning things I never knew in my 12 years of working with horses) is the easy enrollment and being able to work at your own pace, which is especially nice for military members who may have field exercises or deployment," she said. "I want to bring my horses to their full potential. I think knowledge is the key to doing that."
This is Kylee's second trip to Iraq. This time is better. Her husband, an Army Sergeant, is also currently deployed at the same location. "We see each other every day," she said.
Kaylee is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and she lives in Copperas Cove. She will be returning in a few months. She is considering leaving the Air Force and pursuing a career involving horses. "This is the plan for the future my husband is the most fond of. He knows that being with the horses is what I love to do and he wants to see me follow my wishes."
"I look forward to seeing my horses and my family. It will be a few more months before my husband gets back, but I will have my horses to keep my company," she added.
