Washington International Horse Show Announces
2001 Hunt Night

Washington, DC – The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) has
announced a new Hunt Night venue and format, to be held at the Prince George
’s Equestrian Center on Sunday, October 21, 2001. Olympians David and Karen
O’Connor will serve as Honorary Chairpersons and present the final awards.
Appropriately titled “The Celebration of Foxhunting 2001”, this event will
include competitors from many hunts across North America. The 2001 WIHS Hunt
Night will include a hunt horn blowing exhibition, side-saddle classes,
terrier races, and a Meet the Authors reception – with food, drinks, and
live Celtic music by Maggie Sansone. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also
be presented to Peter Winants.
Famous equestrian authors scheduled to appear at the Meet the Authors
reception include: Rita Mae Brown, Michael Sinclair-Smith, William Prickett,
Benjamin Hardaway III, Mollie Eckelberry, Peter Winants, Stephen Budiansky,
and Cliff Hunt. Reception tickets may be reserved by calling the WIHS office
at 301-840-0281.
A live auction will be held prior to the Hunt Team Class, with riding
lessons from such equestrian super stars as David O’Connor, Karen O’Connor,
Don Stewart, Phillip Dutton, and Joe Fargis up for bid.
Rodney Jenkins and Mike Elmore will serve as Hunt Night judges.
The classes/competitions in the indoor arena will include the International
Master’s Class, Hunt Team Class, Corinthian Class, Ladies Hunter Hack,
Gentleman’s Hunter Hack, and the Staff Class.
The classes/competitions is the outdoor arena will include the Foxhunter’s
Relay Race, Silver Fox Class, Leadline Class, Professional Class,
Family/Farm Class, and Side Saddle Classes.
