Gladstone, NJ --July 23, 2000 --The United States Equestrian Team (USET) and
Karen O'Connor announced today that the horse "Regal Scot" will no longer be
considered for the 2000 Olympic Games Eventing Team. Mrs. O'Connor along
with her other mount, Prince Panache, was recently named to the short list
for the 2000 Olympic Games Eventing Team.
On July 14, 2000 it became necessary for veterinary reasons for the horse
"Regal Scot" to be admitted to Auburn University Veterinary Hospital. In
moving the horse to Auburn University, the pre-export quarantine that this
horse was undergoing at Foxhall Farm in Douglasville, GA, along with the rest
of the 2000 Olympic Games Eventing Short List and Alternate Horses, was
broken. Even though the horse was placed in an isolation facility at Auburn
University and did not come into contact in any way with other horses while
away from the quarantine facility, our request to the Australian Quarantine
and Inspection Service, through the USDA, for this horse to return to its
pre-existing pre-export quarantine was denied. Regal Scot will be unable to
return to Foxhall Farm at this time and will not be allowed to travel with
the other Short Listed horses to Australia on the charter aircraft scheduled
to depart from Louisville, KY on July 31, 2000.
Because this horse will be unable to complete Mandatory Training or
participate in the Mandatory Short List Outings he will no longer be
considered for selection for the 2000 Olympic Games Eventing Team.
