Gladstone, NJ—August 7, 2002—The Untied States Equestrian Team
(USET) has announced the team that will compete at CSIO Spruce Meadows,
September 4-8, in Calgary, Canada. The USET named four riders to the team
as well as two alternates.
The riders named to the team are:
1. Ray Texel of Beverly Hills, CA, on Lexicon, owned by Beverly Hills
Equestrian
2. Margie Goldstein Engle of Wellington, FL, on Hidden Creek’s Perin, owned
by Hidden Creek
3. Alison Firestone of Upperville, VA, on Casanova, owned by Mr.& Mrs.
Bertram Firestone
4. Laura Kraut of Oconomowoc, WI, on Anthem, owned by Summit Syndicate
Alternates:
1. Schuyler Riley of Wellington, FL, on Illian, owned by South Beach Stables
2. Todd Minikus of Loxahatchee, FL, on Oh Star, owned by Todd Minikus
Riders were selected based on their performances during the six selection
trials held in California in July to choose the team that will compete at
the World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain in September. The riders named
to represent the U.S. at CSIO Spruce Meadows placed just behind those named
to the squad to represent the U.S. at the World Equestrian Games in the
selection trials. Fifth place finisher, Beezie Madden of Cazenovia, NY, on
Judgement, owned by Iron Spring Farm, elected to hold the alternate position
on the team traveling to the World Equestrian Games team rather than accept
a place on the CSIO Spruce Meadows squad.
