Gladstone, New Jersey - July 23, 2001- The United States Equestrian Team
(USET) will fund a show jumping team for the Samsung Nations Cup Final in
Madrid, Spain, September 20-23, 2001. Riders will be chosen according to
their ranking on the August 10th USET Computer List.
"The Samsung Nations Cup Final is the most significant show jumping team
competition in 2001. Participation there will provide our country and
athletes with an important opportunity to compete against the best teams in
the world, in preparation for next year's World Championships," said
Sally Ike, USET Director of Show Jumping Activities.
Nations qualify for the Samsung Nations Cup Final based on their performance
in earlier Nations Cup competitions held over the past year. Eight nations
compete at the Final, six based on their ranking and two chosen by the
Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI).
The United States Equestrian Team is a non-profit organization that selects,
trains, equips and finances equestrians of the highest possible standard to
represent our country in major international competition, including the
Olympic Games and the World Championships. To accomplish this the USET seeks
out and nurtures the development of talented athletes - riders, drivers and
horses - and provides the support and guidance they need to help them attain
their fullest potential. For more information on the USET, please call
