Indio, CA: Canadian Show Jumping athlete, Kim Farlinger, is enjoying success at the HITS Indio Desert Circuit where she scored three top five finishes at the popular CSI events.
Fresh out of the Canadian deep freeze, Farlinger has been knocking at the door of victory over the past few weeks. In the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix held at the end of week one, the Annan, Ontario native, finished a credible 5th place aboard her partner, del Destino. A ten year old, Zangersheide bay gelding, del Destino, is only beginning his second season of Grand Prix competition together with Farlinger.
Week three of the circuit brought "monsoon like" rains just in time for the $30,000 Ariat Grand Prix held on Friday, February 11. With undesirable conditions and a challenging course to tackle, Farlinger showed calm focus beyond her years and finished a solid fourth place in a competition that saw veterans of the sport struggle.
By Sunday's $75,000 Bayer Grand Prix, the sun was shining and the technical course designed by fellow Canadian, Danny Foster, was imposing. Six horse and rider combinations managed to find the answer to all of Foster's questions, including twenty year old Farlinger. Third to return for the jump- off, Farlinger, had the time, but a gentle rub and a disappointed cry from the crowd, meant the final jump, a 5 foot 4 inch vertical had fallen. Finishing in fourth place, Farlinger was extremely pleased with her horse's performance. "I was so close! There was only one double clean and that was the winner, Nicole Shahinian Simpson. It was a clever jump off track. By the time Nicole went, it was obvious that you needed to ride a little slower to leave the jumps up," commented Farlinger, the Reserve Canadian Champion.
With a rest week ahead of her, Farlinger enters the final three weeks of competition in Indio reflecting on her performances. "I would have loved to have won today, not only for me, but for everybody that's a part of my team. My parents, my coach Jill Henselwood, my groom Rachael Clamp, and of course my sponsors Grand Prix and Antares Saddlery....everyone is really behind me."
As far as Farlinger's thoughts on del Destino; "He's incredible. He makes me believe anything is possible....I'm truly lucky to have him!"
