SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, California: On July 15, 2001, Blenheim
EquiSports will feature the first outdoor international horse show ever held
in the United States. Granted the highest-level competition status by the
Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI), The Oaks Blenheim International
CSI-A will attract some of the world’s top competitors.
World Champion Rodrigo Pessoa of Brazil and 2000 Olympic
Champion Jeroen Dubbeldam of Holland will top the field of 35 riders for the
CSI-A’s Sunday Grand Prix. Rounding out the roster will be Holland’s Jan
Tops and Rolf Goran Bengtsson and the top riders from the United States
Equestrian Team (USET) Computer Ranking List. Returning to San Juan
Capistrano, where they competed in the USET Olympic Selection Trials last
summer, will be members of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team – Margie
Goldstein-Engle, Laura Kraut, Lauren Hough and team alternate Todd Minikus.
“This Grand Prix competition will feature the first head-to-head
showdown outside of Europe between the new Olympic Champion and the reigning
World Champion,” said Robert Ridland, President of Blenheim EquiSports a
two-time U.S. Olympian.
The Schedule of Events for the inaugural Oaks Blenheim
International Horse Show (July 10 – 15), is as follows:
- Friday, July 13:
- 4 p.m. - $10,000 Welcome Jump Off
- 6 p.m. - $25,000 Time First Round (Grand Prix Qualifier)
- Saturday, July 14:
- 1 p.m. - $10,000 Accumulator
- 3 p.m. - $35,000 Speed Derby
- Sunday, July 15:
- 2 p.m. - $175,000 Grand Prix of the United States
VIP Grand Prix Hospitality Tent Amenities - $5,000 per Table
