Candace King from Wellington, FL, showed her consistent form at the World
Cup Finals in Sweden this weekend with a fifth place in the Goteborg
Grand
Prix. Riding Peter Nillsen's Elu De La Hardiere, they jumped one of only
five clear rounds to make it through to the jump off. The 11 year-old
French bred stallion (Laudanum x Jiloi) jumped the second fastest round
in
the jump off but pulled two rails.
Margie Goldstein Engle rode the Holsteiner gelding Hidden Creek's Alvaretto
(Alboubet Z x Carneval) into ninth place with just one rail down on a time
of 68.66 secs. Her compatriot, Gabriella Salick from Thousand Oaks, CA,
partnered the gray Holsteiner stallion, Sandstone Laurin, (Laurin x Rebel I
Z) into tenth place less than half a second behind Goldstein Engle with four
faults.
Other U.S. riders in a field of 36 starters were Kate Levy from Katonah, NY,
with another Holsteiner, Lagretto (Landgraf I x Caletto I) who also finished
on four faults and placed 16th. Lauren Hough from Wellington, FL, and the
14 year-old, Windy City (Gaspari x Cor de la Bryere) finished in 20th place
with eight faults.
King heads the U.S. challenge in the final class of the World Cup Final
today riding Peter Nillsen's Dutch bred stallion John Em. The pair go into
the final just nine points off the leader, Britain's Michael Whitaker.
