Lexington, KY- August 7, 2008- As the sun began to set on the Kentucky Horse Park, the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic came to an exciting finish. Tracey Weinberg and Cromwell, owned by Tracey Weinberg and The Weinberg Brokerage Group of Lovettesville, VA captured their first ever grand prix win.

"Cromwell is my first jumper, in the barn we call him El Profesor because he has taught me everything," Weinberg smiled. "I started with him in the low amateurs and he brought me up to the grand prix level." Cromwell is a 13-year-old Holsteiner.

The pair was one of seven to compete in the jump off, and one of two to go clear in both rounds. "When I walked it, it was a little overwhelming, I thought it was tough. I thought Richard, as always, is tricky about where he sticks the verticals in the combinations," said Weinberg. The winning time was 41.220. "The first line, I think I saved some time from 3 to 4, I rode 2 to 3 a little bit wide so I had more room to turn. I jumped the liverpool oxer a little left to right so that I was heading towards the 6 jump on the end. Once I cleared 6, I just wanted to be careful," explained Weinberg. "I sat up for the vertical and drove to the base of the triple bar, and just let him carry me down to the combination. He set himself right up, and he cleared. I thought it was pretty fast."

Second place went to Graf Lando, owned and shown by Meghan Moran of Malvern, PA, with a time of 43.457. They were the only other horse and rider combination to go double clear. Third went to Debbie Stephens and Callaway 4, owned by Centennial Farm of Palmetto, FL. Stephens had the fastest overall time, 39.324, but took a rail down at fence 13A, a yellow and white vertical. Picking up the fourth place award was Joe Fargis and Kimber, owned by Hidden Trail Farm of The Plains, VA. The duo finished in a time of 41.460, and had a rail at the last fence, 13B, an oxer that was the "bogey" fence of the day. Debbie Stephens came back to pick up the pink ribbon on All Star, owned by Centennial Farm of Palmetto, FL with a time of 41.804 and a rail at fence 11, an orange, yellow, and blue vertical. Sixth place went to Geoff Case and Mashaallah, owned by ADBF Inc. of Miami Beach, FL. Case was the first to go clear in the first round, but took a rail down in the jump off, which he rode in 43.003 seconds. Rounding out the jump off in seventh place was Mary Shirley and RMW New Day, owned by Rocky Mountain Warmbloods of Wellington, FL. The pair had rails at fences 2 and 4. They also had trouble at fences 11 and 12, and were excused with two refusals.

This was the fourth event in the Hagyard Challenge Series, which continues in two weeks, at The Bluegrass Festival Horse Show. There are seven events in the Hagyard Challenge Series. At the completion of the last event, the rider who has accumulated the most money will receive the $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus.

The next grand prix at the Kentucky Summer Classic will be the $40,000 RV Sales of Broward Kentucky Classic Grand Prix. The class will be held in the Walnut Arena, Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park.
