Tyler, TX
- November 9, 2008 - The
last day of competition offered beautiful weather and a picturesque background
for the competitors at the sold out Dallas Harvest Horse Show. The show was
held at the prestigious Texas Rose
Horse Park.
In the grand prix ring today, a Sunday Grand Prix Brunch
kicked off the $25,000 Harvest Grand Prix. Today's Grand Prix was sponsored by
October Hill Farm and the Davis Family.
Before the grand prix got underway, several special events
were held in the competition arena. Habitat for Horses introduced many
adoptable horses to the crowd. They toured the ring while Lori Motlag rode her
show horse that she adopted from Habitat, around the ring for spectators to
see.
Following the Habitat for Horses demonstration, the Liz West
Sportsmanship Trophy was presented to Eirin Bruheim for her attitude and
sportsmanship throughout the five days of competition. The recipient was chosen
based on votes from horse show officials and staff.
For the second year in a row, the winner of the $25,000
Harvest Grand Prix was Tracy Fenney and horse MTM Timon. This is Fenney's
seventh grand prix win at the Dallas Harvest Horse Show. She was also riding in
front of a home crowd.
While everyone was watching Fenney and MTM Timon's every
move in the jump off, many people did not notice what happened at the last
fence.
"At the last jump, he just sailed it and he went one way and
I went one way. I thought we were going to part company. I was just hoping that
if we parted ways that it was going to be after the timers," laughed Fenney.
Fenney trains with Mike McCormick. The horse she won on, MTM
Timon, is owned by MTM Farm. This is a horse that Fenney thinks has major
potential, and hopes she has a long future ahead of her with this horse.
"Timon we just got from Europe. We
are very excited about this one. He is a Voltaire, and those are French so they
have a tendency to be a little heavier in the mouth," said Fenney. "He is
really nice in the mouth and really light off the ground. He is more like a
Thoroughbred."
Fenney has been a frequent visitor to the winners circle for
this particular grand prix. For her, winning in front of a home crowd has
special meaning to her. Fenney said that it is special to have a nice horse
show to attend in Texas because
there are not that many that contain the same level of quality as the Dallas
Harvest Horse Show.
"My mom is here and so is my brother, so it is really nice.
It is fun, and it is a great horse show. They have done a nice job and kept it
a kind of specialty horse show that is very prestigious," said Fenney. "They
add nice classes like this and they do special things. They have things like
the hospitality cart and breakfast, they have dinner every night, and they had
the Calcutta last night. That makes
everyone get in to the horse show, its fun."
