Upper Marlboro, MD - October 7, 2008 - Caitie Hope of Barrington, IL, triumphed for another championship this past weekend at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD. Hope trains with Diane Carney of Telluride Farm. Aboard Lyle, owned by Stephanie Keen, the 16-year-old rider earned the top prize in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunter division.

The pair took first place in both over fences classes indoors and jogged for the handy hunter class. Hope, who had never shown Lyle indoors before, had not ridden the horse since the USEF Junior Hunter Finals in early August. "Caitie had to go first in the first class," stated Carney. "She laid down a beautiful trip and maintained the lead throughout the class for the win. It was such a good competition."

"We went later in the second over fences," she said. "All of the other junior hunters were going really, really well, earning scores consistently around 81. The highest score was an 89.5. Caitie went toward the end of the class, and she threw down a 90. It was definitely fun," smiled Carney. "It was great to see her not be affected by going first in the class or by going late and watching everyone else do so well. That was a telling tale of her maturity. She was really on her game; she concentrates on her job and focuses on going forward and staying in the middle."

Hope also catch-rode a young horse for Don Stewart, Jr. named Von Trapp. She competed with him in the Large Junior 16-17 Hunters and earned fifth and sixth place. She had never ridden 6-year-old Von Trapp, who is an up and coming junior hunter and equitation horse. "The horse goes very light, balances well, and jumps beautifully," noted Carney.

"Don Stewart suggested we go to Capital Challenge to get started with the indoors circuit," she explained. "Aside from excellent courses and competition, I think the most interesting part of the show was to see how much Caitie has matured this year. Normally she shows the horses that she rides at home. Lyle is a very special horse that has been a great competitor for so many years. He only jumps at the horse shows, and you only do about four or five jumps in the schooling ring. It's very professional in that she really has to know her job. Showing him has been a very cool opportunity for her."

Telluride Farm's Caitie Hope will compete next at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA. She will show Lyle, Von Trapp, and her horse Caped Crusader.

Carney of Hampshire, IL has been both an active participant and influential trainer in the hunter and jumper community for many years. Her contributions to the industry extend to the many clinics that she teaches every year, in addition to those that she hosts annually for U.S. Show Jumping Chef d'Equipe George H. Morris and top hunter/jumper trainer Don Stewart Jr.
