Harrisburg, PA - October 17, 2008 - Lindsey Mohr of Long Valley, NJ, and her brilliant
chestnut, Lion King, outshone all the others to win the $10,000 North American League
Adult Hunter Final presented by Practical Horseman at the Pennsylvania National
Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA. Their two round total score of 171 points attested
to their prowess over the jumps, finishing ten points ahead of their closest rival.
"I was nervous about the first round", said Mohr, a 19 year old sophomore at Centenary
College. "I have not done the NAL finals since 2004, and I won it then and I felt
a little pressure, like I had to win it again. As soon as I got on him I wasn't
scared anymore. He is just the sweetest horse. He is the best - so versatile
and such a character."
Mohr was one of only three riders to crack the 80 point mark in the first round
with a score of 85. Linley Reilly posted the top score in that round of 88 with
her mount Damascus and Brittany Yates with Lancome posted an 80. The top 12 riders
from the first round then returned over a shortened course in reverse order of their
standings.
In the second round Yates and Lancome had an unfortunate rail down and with a second
round score of 45, were out of contention for the blue ribbon. Mohr went in the
ring and turned in another stellar round, finishing with a score of 86 points.
Last in the ring was Reilly on Damascus and they needed get a score of 84 to win
the class. Their round had a few mistakes and they had to settle for a score of
68.
"My second round was so much smoother than the first, but both my rounds were really
consistent and I think that made the difference here," said Mohr. "He really relaxed
in the second round."
After the shake-up in the second round, JC Kennedy of Leesburg, VA and After Party
placed second with a two round total of 159 and Cheryl Rubenstein from Memphis,
TN aboard Reisling were third with a combined score of 158. Reilly managed to hold
onto fourth place with a total score of 156 for her two rounds.
The NAL runs season-long series in six hunter-jumper divisions - Adult Hunter, presented
by Practical Horseman, Children's Hunter, Open Jumper Speed, Adult Jumper, Children's
Jumper and Pony Jumper. All horses competing in the NAL finals earn U.S. Equestrian
Federation Horse-of-the-Year points. The NAL qualifying period started September
1, 2007 and ended August 31, 2008. While riders did not need to be members of
the NAL to compete in any qualifying classes, only current members earned points
toward year-end finals.
