G10 Groundbreaking Forum
The USEA's Group of 10 (G10), a day-long national forum for the ten Areas
of the United States, will be held on Saturday, December 8. The G10
Eventing Summit will focus on a broad range of eventing issues faced by
every constituency in the sport--competitors, organizers, owners,
officials, and volunteers. The leaders of eventing in the U.S. will be on
hand to develop with the membership workable solutions to problems,
brainstorm ideas, and plan for implementation of those solutions and ideas.
Send your thoughts and concerns to Emily Daily at emily@useventing.com and
she will pass them along to the appropriate committee members, who will
voice these issues at the Summit.
A highlight of the meeting will be a visit from Irish international rider,
Eric Smiley. He plans to discuss the social changes, marketing, training
methods, and a generation of urban living in the eventing world--what
problems shortcuts cause and how these international trends are changing
the sport. Eric is a Fellow of the British Horse Society, an honor limited
to a few of the best riders and instructors in the world. USEF President
and Sydney Olympic individual gold medalist, David O'Connor, will host the
first session of the day covering the innovative results achieved so far by
the special FEI, USEF, and USEA committees reviewing the sport both
internationally and nationally.
Hosted and moderated by Kevin Baumgardner, USEA Executive Secretary,
representatives of the following constituencies will present three or four
key points arising from the emails sent to the USEA offices and from their
meetings during the previous days: Darren Chiacchia and Gina Miles
-Professional Riders; Jan Byyny and Tim Murray - Young Riders/Juniors;
Patte Clement - Adult and Amateur Riders; Penny Ross - Organizers; John
Strassburger - Conservation of Land for Eventing; Karen O'Connor and Sue
Hershey - ICP Instructors.
A live audio webcast of the Summit is planned, so if you can't make it to
Colorado to be a part of the action you can listen in live on this
ground-breaking forum. Stay tuned to http://useventing.com for more
details.

For A Good Cause
Eventers have a competitive streak a dressage arena wide, so why not put
that gotta-win attitude to good use bidding on any of the long list of
items on this year's USEA Convention On-Line auction, presented by Bit of
Britain, which will be hosted on eBay. Items that have come in so far as
part of this Convention fundraiser include a Stackhouse saddle, breeding to
Weston Justice donated by EMCO Stallion Services, week at a Florida resort
courtesy of India Watson and Think Equestrian, Inc., Ovation four-star
eventing saddle, Dubarry boots, Pessoa quilted stable blanket, Mountain
Horse boots, FITS breeches and riding shirts, Freedom Health, Platinum
Performance, and Wellpride omega-3 fish oil. The list of products continues
to grow, so check back to the USEA site often for updates. In addition,
organizers of events throughout the country are donating event entries, so
if you're planning your 2008 season, check the auction and compete for a
good cause. The auctions are planned for two weeks, the first to launch
November 26 and end December 3; the second to launch December 3 through
December 10-perfect timing for your holiday shopping!
