Wellington, Fl- Eleven year old, Tess Zywczyk rode a four-year-old
Shetland Pony, Pan's Atomic Particle to win the Dressage Walk-Trot
Junior Rider Championship at the 18thAnnual Vinceremos Benefit
Dressage Show hosted in December at the Palm Beach Equestrian Club
show grounds.
At only 11 hands tall, Pan's Atomic Particle (aka Yeager) was the
smallest equine participating in the Vinceremos Benefit Dressage
Show, but that didn't stop him from taking a victory lap with the
championship ribbon that was literally bigger than him!
Tess Zywczyk of Wellington, Florida has been training "Yeager" in
dressage since September of 2005. The Vinceremos Dressage Show was
the pair's second show and they got off to a slightly rocky start.
"I had a little trouble getting Yeager's attention in the first
class" explained Zywczyk, "He was better in the second class and
winning the Championships was the best. I was so happy".
Yeager is an American Shetland Pony owned by Johnny Robb of Dance
Hall Farm. Robb is a dressage rider who also "collects" Shetland
Ponies. Robb told us how she met Tess at John Zopatti's Dressage
barn, where Tess' older sister, Gabby trains. "I was pleased when
I met Tess and discovered she also had an interest in dressage. I
always wanted to see the Shetland's in the dressage arena, so I
brought Yeager right over. I hoped to dispel two rumors; that you
need a big fancy Warmblood to compete in dressage and that Shetland
Ponies are hard to train", said Robb. Now Zywczyk rides of three of
Robb's Shetland Ponies five days a week. "Tess loves working all
the ponies, but there is no question that Yeager is her favorite.
And now after the big win at Vinceremos, they are practically
inseparable", Robb explained.
