Ocala, FL - February 20, 2007 - At the first week of the HITS Ocala
Winter Series on February 14-18, 2007, Kacey McCann of SBS Farms in
Buffalo, NY, started the winter series off with a bang. McCann rode to
two hunter tricolor ribbons and was named the Best Junior Rider of the
week.
After last year's incredible success at the HITS Ocala Winter circuit,
where she was named Best Junior Rider at four of the five weeks of
competition, McCann is thrilled to be honored again this year. "It's
cool to come back and see if I can do that again," she affirmed. "There
are a lot of really good junior riders here. I rode some green horses
this week, so it's nice to be noticed even if I'm not winning."
Sixteen-year-old McCann trains with Susan Schoellkopf and Jennifer
Alfano. In the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters, she rode the SBS Farms-owned
Secrets to first in the under saddle and third place over fences.
"Secrets has a great canter. It's always fun to get on the hack winner,"
McCann stated. "I have to get to know her more, but I think she'll do
better and better each week."
On Mustique, owned by Don Stewart Jr., she won two classes in the
division on her way to the championship. Mustique was also fourth in the
$1,000 Junior Hunter Classic. McCann and Mustique were very successful
in the Jacksonville Winter Circuit, which has continued in Ocala. McCann
explained why she thinks Mustique wins, "He's a very cute horse. He
looks like a big pony, and he always has his ears up. For such a little
horse, he has a big stride. He can just float down the lines."
In the Large Junior 16-17 Hunters, she piloted Chloe Z to two first
place ribbons and the reserve championship for owner Caroline Weingart.
On her horse Comanche, McCann was in the top five finishers in the
Equitation 16-17, ASPCA Maclay, USEF Talent Search and WIHS Equitation
classes. This was Comanche's first show since the ASPCA Maclay National
Championship in November. "I have to get used to riding him again,"
McCann noted. "Jen [Alfano] helps ride him in the mornings, which
definitely helps. It will be exciting to put some miles on him, and this
is a great start to the year."
McCann, along with everyone at SBS Farms, will compete next week at the
HITS Ocala Winter Festival on February 21-25, 2007.
