Buffalo, NY - September 20, 2007 - Competition moved indoors this week at the Buffalo International Horse Show, but the change of scenery didn't stop Jennifer Alfano from raking in the ribbons in the professional hunter divisions.

Alfano, a Buffalo-based rider and trainer for SBS Farms Ltd., started off her morning with the tricolor in the First Year Green Hunters aboard Violets Are Blue, owned by Helen Lenahan. The pair won both over fences classes today to bring home the championship. Both the First and Second Year Green Hunter divisions were sponsored by Delaware North Companies.

In the Second Year Green Hunters, Alfano and Rock Star proved again that they were the pair to beat. Over the two days of competition, Rock Star won the blue ribbon in every class for the championship honors. Owned by Bright Star 158 Unlimited and Jennifer Burger, the pair also earned the title of Grand Green Hunter championship with a total of 50 points.

Rock Star's success didn't end, as he also competed in the Regular Working Hunter division and brought home the reserve championship. However, he and Alfano also earned the Grand Hunter Championship, thanks to their clean sweep of the Second Year Green division.

"He was great today," Alfano explained of Rocky. "He really always is good. He always, always tries to do his best, no matter if we are at home or if we are away. I think we have a great partnership, but I really think he's just a great horse."

Owner Jennifer Burger described Rock Star as a big "teddy bear." While the big bay gelding was originally purchased to be an amateur horse for Burger, hip surgery sidelined her, giving Alfano the front seat. Burger is also the chairwoman of the Buffalo International Horse Show and has played a vital role in securing the sponsorships and support necessary for the production of the show.

"The union of Jennifer Alfano and Rock Star is self-told by anyone who has seen him go," Burger explained. "It's magnificent. I'm having as much if not more fun sitting in the boxes and cheering them on because she's just such a great rider and he's such a fabulous horse."

Alfano's roll continued, as SBS Farm horses took both champion and reserve champion honors in the Green Conformation Hunter division. Partnered with Sting, Alfano captured the top tricolor and followed with Jersey Boy for the reserve championship.

She also brought home the Regular Working Hunter division championship aboard Once and Again, owned by Meredith Lipke Bartolone.

Alfano noted that all of her rides today were especially consistent and performed well. In addition, she said that the Buffalo International Horse Show helps her prepare her horses and riders for the upcoming indoor season.

"It's good because the ring is decorated and there are all the signs on the sides of the ring, and the ends with all the flowers. Especially if you have a spooky horse, it's great to come here and show and really use this as a warm-up for indoors," she said.

Competition at the BIHS will continue Friday morning with the pinning of the Amateur-Owner champions.
