(April 14, 2007) CHARLOTTE - The $50,000 Welcome Stake, the last class of the Saturday evening Charlotte Jumper Classic session proved to be the most exciting with a three-person timed jump off featuring the best riders in the world.
Three riders out of a field of 30 delivered a clear round and headed to a jump off. All are accomplished equestrians. First up was 2005 Grand Prix of Charlotte winner Kimberly Prince on Marlou who set the pace with a clear round and a time of 34.79 on the shortened course. Next up was Henrik Gundersen of Denmark on Darvin Garbo who tripped the timers with a clear round of 37.23. The last rider in the jump-off was 2006 Grand Prix of Charlotte and five-time Nation's Cup winner Laura Kraut on Anthem. Kraut knocked a rail and retired with the automatic third place in the class.
Prince was happy to be back on top in Charlotte. She described the Charlotte Jumper Classic as her "most favorite horse show" because she always does well here. Prince went on to add, "Every year coming to Charlotte is a pleasure due to the warm welcome the riders receive from the community."
