Wellington, FL - March 10, 2006 - Georgina Bloomberg of New York City
posted an impressive speed victory on Friday at the CN Wellington
Finale, CSIO-5*, the final week of competition at the 2006 Winter
Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.
Riding Lumina 2, owned by the Gotham Enterprizes, Bloomberg conquered a
field of forty-three top international show jumping stars to earn the
victory in the $7,500 1.45m Open Jumper, scored under FEI Art. 238.2.1.
Time First Round.
Bloomberg's win came over two-time French Olympian, Philippe Rozier.
Bloomberg raced home in 50.02 seconds, a stunning 2.27 seconds faster
than the Frenchman. United States Olympic Team Gold Medalist Beezie
Madden finished a distant third on Play On, owned by Allan Shore Jr.
Madden was 3.96 seconds slower than Bloomberg.
"I didn't get to see many go, but I knew that Philippe (Rozier) had been
pretty quick," Bloomberg said following her win. "But I went near the
end of the class and with nothing to lose, I rode as fast as I could. I
knew I wasn't going to win if I had a rail, but I wasn't going to win
unless I went all out either. I might have been a little risky to one
jump, but I got away with it."
"It's been a little bit of a slower circuit for me this year, not doing
the Amateur Jumpers. Moving up to the Open division has been a little
tougher, but it's been a great learning experience and winning today in
the big class means so much more," admitted Bloomberg. "I'm really happy
with all of my horses this circuit. I've got a couple of younger ones,
and it's been nice to take the time to work with them. So as long as my
horses stay sound, I think I've got a great chance as we look ahead."
Straight ahead for Bloomberg are a number of important events, including
the selection trials for the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.
"I'm definitely a rider that needs to be in the ring as much as I can,
and I tend to peak towards the end of the circuit," she said. "There's
still a lot coming up in the next couple of months with the American
Invitational and World Equestrian Games Trials, so it's great to be
rounding into form right now."
