Falsterbo, SWE - July 14, 2006 - A strong two round performance by the Italian show jumping team on Friday earned them the FEI Nation's Cup of Sweden title for 2006. The hometown squad from Sweden, winners in 2003 and 2004, could do no better than seventh, and the United States, sitting third after the first round, faded to a sixth place finish at Falsterbo.

The Italian team, on the strength of the double clear ride by Chiarra Arrighetti on Nanta, and clear rounds from Omar Bonomelli and Emilio Bicocchi, finished the two round competition with a total of four faults in the first round and six in the second for a team total of only ten faults overall. Belgium finished second with fourteen total faults and Ireland and Brazil, with twenty-four faults each, finished tied for third. The two clutch clear rides for Arrighetti produced the only double clean performance of the day.

The United States Equestrian Team was in contention going into round two, sitting third with only nine faults in the first round. The Americans were led by Molly Ashe on Neuville, owned by Jane F. Clark, who finished up with a single time fault. Christine McCrea on Candy Tribble's Promised Land, Anne Kursinski aboard Scott Hakim's Roxanna 112, and Candice King on Coco Cabana, owned by Louisburg Farm, all had four faults from a single knockdown in the first round. King's score was used as the drop score. In the second round, Ashe again led the way, this time with four faults. King had a rail and a time fault for five, and Kursinski and McCrea scored eight faults each. Dropping one of the eight fault scores, the team's second round total was seventeen faults and their two round total was twenty-six faults.

In Sweden on Saturday, the Swedbank Derby takes center stage, and Sunday's main event, the JMS Mediasystem Grand Prix, is a Qualifier for the 2006 WEG and the FEI European Championship.
