Wellington, FL - July 12, 2006 - Team Dunwalke does it again! Alexandra
Thornton of Bedminster, NJ, had a clean sweep over fences in the
Children's Hunter 14 and Under division at the I Love New York Horse
Show in Lake Placid, NY. Thornton, who rides at her family's farm,
Dunwalke, piloted Tobasco to the championship and the Grand Children's
Hunter Championship for the second week in a row . The thirteen year old
trains with Susie Humes, the renowned equestrian trainer and judge.
The young rider spent the first week of the show working with both Humes
and the legendary George Morris. She showed her horses Tobasco and For
The Music in the Children's Hunter division and competed with Agincourt
in the equitation classes. After an intense week of training, Agincourt
and her jumper Saint Exupery took the second week off from the show
ring. Thornton competed with her new jumper Tullifinny and had two
successful rounds in the Children's Jumpers 14 and Under division.
"None of this could happen without Chris Marold, our barn manager,"
related Humes. "She works so hard to keep the horses organized, sound,
and happy. We are so appreciative of her dedication, which is unflagging
24 hours a day, seven days a week."
"Last year, the Lake Placid Horse Show was Alexandra's first major show
with me," stated Humes. "She was Grand Children's Pony Hunter Champion
on her Medium Pony, Inspector. She has worked so hard and come so far; I
am very proud of her. She has spent countless hours working on her
basics to try to make all of her habits correct. Due to her hard work
and her innate athletic ability, the transition from ponies to horses
was fairly seamless. Now we move on to another exciting challenge- the
transition from 3 feet to 3'6"!"
The Dunwalke group will travel to the Kentucky Horse Park on July 22nd
for two weeks and then to the Trader's Point Horse Show in Zionsville,
Indiana. In the near future, she will move up to the Small Junior
Hunters with Tobasco and the Large Junior Hunters with For The Music.
She will continue in the Children's Jumpers with Tullifinny and Saint
Exupery, and Agincourt will show in the equitation.
