Wellington, FL - July 12, 2006 - For fifteen year old Katherine Newman,
winning with her new mount Daydream in the Pre-Green Working Hunter
division is exciting for a number of different reasons. Daydream was
recently purchased by Mimi Abel-Smith for Newman to show, and the young
rider has only shown the horse a few times. Newman rides at her farm,
Allwyn Court, and trains with parents Kathy and Gerry Newman.
Daydream is only six years old and just started to compete at shows. He
and Newman captured a first, two seconds, and the Pre-Green Working
Hunter division championship at the I Love New York Horse Show in Lake
Placid, NY.
"Daydream is truly a Pre-Green horse," stated Kathy Newman. "He just
started showing this summer. So far, he has shown in Kentucky,
Upperville, and Lake Placid, and he is the easiest Pre-Green horse to
train that I've ever had."
"He's really smart," continued Newman. "Whatever you teach him seems to
get locked into his memory bank. The next day, he just picks up right
where you left off. We are very excited about him, and he will make a
fabulous First Year Green horse or Junior Hunter. He has an enormous
stride and is a big horse in a little package. He just has this 'I think
I can' attitude!"
Katherine Newman usually competes in the younger Junior Hunters with her
Allwyn Court mount Corvet Z and in the equitation arena with Mimi
Abel-Smith's Timeless. In addition, she pilots Abel-Smith's horses,
Royal D'Or and Gran Cru, and picks up catch rides whenever possible. Her
move up to the Pre-Green Hunters was intimidating, but she kept her
poise and topped the charts once again.
"Katherine was so excited to pin in the professional division," related
her mother. "Right before she went in, we watched Holly Hayes Orlando
show. I told Katherine to ride up the lines just like Holly did.
Katherine went in and just rode brilliantly. Katherine ended up champion
and Holly was reserve champion!"
Allwyn Court will compete next at the Kentucky Summer Classic and the
Bluegrass Classic, held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
Newman will show Daydream in the Pre-Green Working Hunters, Timeless in
the equitation, and Corvet Z in the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunters.
