TULSA, OK- Once again the annual American Miniature Horse Registry
(AMHR) National Championship Show drew record participation. Hosted
last month in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the AMHR National Championship Show
boasted over 5000 entries. The AMHR National Championship Show is the
equivalent of the Super Bowl for Miniature Horses and attracts top
Miniature Horses from throughout the United States This year the show
offered 300 classes for Miniatures Horses and gave away almost
$50,000 in cash and prizes to lucky winners.
Along with filling the Miniature Horse record books with this year's
National Champions, the show offered some new twists. Spectators
were treated to an 8-horse hitch demonstrations performed by Rod and
Heather Hart of Manitoba, Canada. The sight of eight matched
Miniature Horses gracefully pulling their red wagon was a real crowd
pleaser. On Saturday, KVOO radio morning show personalities, Sunny
and Jean, took a ride around the Expo Center in the Hart's 8-horse
hitch and really attracted the spectators. The KVOO morning team did
their broadcast live from the 2006 AMHR National Championships and
invited a few Miniature Horses to visit them next year in the studio!
Another highlight of the show was the awards ceremony for the winner
of the Youth Essay Contest. The grand prize was a Miniature Horse
donated by Cross Country Farm. The beautiful colt was awarded to 12-
year old Brooke Tribley of Texas. Her touching essay was read aloud
by show announcer, Mark Bullington and few eyes were dry in the
audience when he finished.
Another surprise at this year's show was having the French video
crew of 5'Eme Planete Productions filming a documentary on Miniature
Horses at the show. Producers, Cathy Coopman and Laurene Marmol came
all the way from France to tape segments for the documentary
scheduled to air in France in 2007.
Overall the show will go down in Miniature Horse history as one the
best attended and exciting national shows to date. For information
