Lake Placid, NY—July 9, 2005—Louis Jacobs of East Aurora, NY, piloted
Deeridge Farm’s Santa Cruz to victory in the $10,000 Charlotte Bobcats High
Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic on Saturday, July 9 at the 28th annual I Love
New York Horse Show.
Jacobs was one of 12 riders from a starting field of 18 who rode
fault-free over the 13-obstacle, first round course at the North Elba
Showgrounds. He was then the second of five to ride clear over the
shortened jump-off course. His time of 31.494 seconds was enough to edge
his younger brother, Charlie, for the win.
Charlie Jacobs stopped the timers at 31.686 seconds aboard Pia,
also owned by Deeridge Farm. The siblings were nearly a full two seconds
faster than third place finisher, David Tromp and his mount Corina, owned by
Beyaert Farm, Inc.
In the $10,000 Shamrock Ventures LLC High Junior Jumper Classic,
11 horse-and-rider combinations competed over the same course as the
amateur-owners, but it was Katie Brown of Wellington, FL, who rode away with
the blue ribbon.
Brown, with her horse, Rashnu, was one of only two riders who
completed the 7-obstacle jump-off course fault-free. Brown and Rashnu
crossed the timers in 30.273 seconds. Behind Brown in second place was
Josephine Nash aboard Comfortside Farm’s Superfly, who finished with a time
of 32.473 seconds.
Both Jumper Classics are member events of the Show Jumping Hall
of Fame Series, which features events at nearly 100 horse shows across the
country. The Series kicks off each year in February and runs through
November, when it culminates in Year-End Championships for junior and
amateur-owner riders at the National Horse Show in Wellington, FL.
Competition in the 2005 I Love New York Horse Show continues
through Sunday, July 10. The show’s highlighted event — the $75,000 Hermès
I Love New York Grandprix CSI 2*—was scheduled to be held on Saturday, July
9, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather. The Grand Prix is set to
run on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Following the Grand Prix, the Richard and Diana Feldman
Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Excellence will be awarded to the rider who
has won the most prize money in the Lake Placid Horse Shows’ two Grand Prix
combined. Once again, the Lake Placid Horse Shows will also offer the
$25,000 Hidden Creek Challenge, with $25,000 to be awarded to the
horse-and-rider combination that earns the highest overall placing in both
the Budweiser Grandprix of Lake Placid CSI 2* and the Hermès I Love New York
Grandprix CSI 2* combined.
On Sunday, July 10, at the I Love New York Horse Show, the Lake Placid Lodge
WIHS Adult Amateur Jumper Classic and the Lake Placid/Essex County Visitors
Bureau WIHS Children’s Jumper Classic take center stage. Both of these
classes are member events of the WIHS Championship Series and will count as
points towards the Championship held at the Washington International Horse
Show. The Levy Family Low Junior Jumper Classic and the Pepsi Pony Hunter
Classic will be held on Sunday as well.
