It doesn't get any more exciting than today's competition in the CN
Performance World Cup where the winners were only .01 seconds apart. Eleven
horse/rider combinations went forward to the jump-off and England's Nick
Skelton was first back and set what seemed an impossibly fast pace, not
taking back at all on the jump-off course aboard his stallion, Russell.
One by one they tried to catch him and speedster Richard Spooner of the
United States and Robinson did in fact catch his time but not the clear
round. It was the last rider in, Bernardo Alves of Brazil aboard Canturo
that skimmed just .01 seconds of Skelton's time for the win.
Canada's Jill Henselwood also put in a double clear and finished third, a
full second behind the two leaders but a very impressive performance on her
Oldenburg gelding, Special Ed.
While many parts of Calgary are still on flood watch as the Elbow and Bow
Rivers are cresting and flooding many neighborhoods, the sun did shine this
afternoon. The footing held up very well on the Meadows on the Green
course, although there were definitely some "sticky" parts of the course
that backed some of the horses off a bit.
This CN Performance World Cup draws to a close the second week of the Summer
Tour. The Spruce Meadows "Canada One" Tournament will take place June 29 -
July 3.
