Decatur, Ala (November 17, 2011) - Bruce Ekstrom and Tuigpaarden Farms
ponies raked in the wins at the 21st Annual Alabama Charity Championship
Horse Show, which took place October 12-15, 2011. Ekstrom driving four of
his Hackney ponies took home prizes in the qualifiers and championships
culminating with his tri-colored win, earning him the lions share of the
cash prize's along with a most fine collection of silver and crystal.
Ekstrom, who is passionate about driving enjoys his high stepping horses, on
both his Tuigpaarden Farm's located in Ocala, Florida and Shelbyville,
Kentucky.
Ekstrom drove his six-year-old Hackney cobtail gelding, Heartlands
Newsflash, to top accolades by winning the Grand Champion Hackney Pony
Championship of the show. Code of Honor, a 3-year-old Hackney Pony, showed
in the United Professional Horsemens Association (UPHA) Classics Road Pony
division, taking Reserve Champion honors in this prestigious class despite
this being her first Hackney competition. The four-year-old Hackney Pony
Mario Lopez took the the Classics Pleasure Championship. To round out the
four, Ekstrom drove his home bred three-year-old, Silver Oaks Moet, to the
UPHA Harness Pony Classics Championship in this, her first outing off the
farm.
The Alabama Charity Horse Show proved to be as fun, competitive, and well
run as I had heard, Ekstrom said. Its also very well attended with farms
from as far as Florida, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky competing. It is an
event that is dedicated to people who love horses and their families, and
its a great way to raise money for charity. For Tuigpaarden Farm, it was a
nice way to round out the year, taking home 4 championships with four ponies
at a charity show. We had a great show and will certainly be attending in
2012. Ekstroms three younger ponies are new to the show ring, while
Heartlands Newsflash is just returning to the show ring. As a long-time
supporter of harness ponies and horses, Ekstrom believes driving is one of
the best-kept secrets in the equine world. Ekstrom believes another great
secret is the Hackney Horse. That isnt something I want to keep a secret,
though, he said. I want more people to know about the Hackney Horse, an
endangered species, as it is a magnificent, majestic athletic breed.
