Wellington, FL- January 28, 2010 -The competition was close in the $8,000 1.45m class held in the International Ring at Palm Beach International Equestrian Club in Wellington, Florida. Louis Jacobs beat out Jeffery Welles by a hundredth of a second with a time of 32.122 seconds during the jump-off. He won the class riding his eleven-year-old Belgian Warmblood Kachina. Jacobs rides for Deeridge Farm located in East Aurora, New York and Wellington, Florida.

Forty-one people competed in the International Ring during the 1.45m class over Olaf Peterson Jr.'s difficult track. Jacobs completed the first round without fault and moved on to the jump off and also left all the jumps standing with the fastest time. "Kachina was a good girl today," commented Jacobs. "The course today truly favored a horse like Kachina with a big stride."

Jacobs won the 2009 Amateur-Owner High Jumper Circuit Championship, and has been slowly moving Kachina up in the levels since the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) started. During Week One, Kachina and Jacobs entered the Amateur-Owner Medium Jumpers and ended up in the top of the class. Then in Week Two Kachina and Jacobs entered the class of Amateur-Owner Jumper High Power and Speed where he placed second in the competition.

This week the fences were as high as 4'9" with spreads to 5'3" in the 1.45m class. "I am gradually moving Kachina up in fence height as we move through each week of WEF," Jacobs continued. "I am looking forward to Saturday's event in the 1.50m Suncast Classic II."

Jacobs will compete with Deeridge Farm throughout the Winter Equestrian Festival before returning to their farm in East Aurora, New York.
