Traverse City, MI - July 31, 2010 - Scott Lenkart and Impulsive have won
more grand prix classes than anyone in the seven year history of Horse Shows
by the Bay, and today the pair continued their winning efforts. Competing in
the $30,000 D-Braider Cherry Capital Classic Grand Prix, Lenkart and
Impulsive were the only horse and rider combination to jump double clear
today over Michel Vaillancourt's course. Today's class was the second grand
prix win in a row for the pair, after also winning last week's $30,000 Grand
Traverse Bay Grand Prix.
Showing in the beautiful Grand Prix Ring at Flintfields Horse Park, 24
entries showed up to compete in today's class, which was generously
sponsored by Karin Flint of Wellington, FL. Just six entries jumped clear
over the difficult first round course, and Lenkart was the only rider to
also clear the challenging jump-off course. Lenkart and Impulsive stopped
the clock in the fastest time of 40.193 seconds, and their clear round
earned top prize. Victor Segovia and his mount Romeo finished with the
fastest four-fault jump-off round in 40.502 seconds to earn the second place
prize. Denise Wilson and Life is Life 15 also had one rail in the jump-off
to earn third place honors with their time of 40.637 seconds. Kim Farlinger
and Bay Street finished in fourth, Frankie Chesler-Ortiz and Aslan took home
fifth place honors, and Michael Tokaruk and Lord Byron finished out the top
six.
After another exciting win, Lenkart praised Impulsive for his great efforts
in the day's class, stating, "He likes to get that ribbon, he really
does. He likes to go in there a second time and he likes doing the victory
gallop. He tries so hard; today he jumped better than he has all three
weeks."
"He was a little fresher than I wanted him to be; the weather is a little
cooler and I have not shown him in a late class since we have been here,"
Lenkart continued. "He was definitely fresher than normal, and usually that
would backfire on me, but today he jumped fantastic."
Lenkart commented on the course, which proved difficult for many of the
horses and riders. "Today was definitely a tough course. The course was
squarer than the last two classes and it was definitely more technical," he
noted. "In the jump-off I went fourth and the first three horses each had
stops, so my plan was just to go double clear. There were two nice rollback
turns to verticals and that is his specialty, he really likes doing
that. Then there was a long gallop to a square oxer at the Liverpool, and I
happened to find it right. I definitely had a beatable time, but there were
already three horses that had rails before me and there were only two horses
after me, so there was a little luck out there for sure."
Lenkart and his family enjoy spending time in Traverse City each summer and
continue to love Horse Shows by the Bay and all that it has to offer. "We
had a great time here," he concluded. "The customers all loved it and this
was a great way to end another year."
The 2010 Horse Show by the Bay Equestrian Festival will conclude with its
final day of competition on Sunday featuring several prestigious jumper
classics for the junior/amateurs and children's/adult riders. For more
